SHIC AASV Webinar to Focus on Emerging Strains of PRRS
Dr. Paul Sundberg - Swine Health Information Center

SwineHealth News for February 20, 2023

A Swine Health Information Center American Association of Swine Veterinarians webinar planned for tomorrow will focus on emerging strains of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory syndrome.
The Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome virus Lineage 1C variant which has been spreading in the U.S. and Rosalia, a strain identified in Spain, will be the focus of a Swine Health Information Center and American Association of Swine Veterinarians webinar planned for tomorrow at 11:00 am central time.
Swine Health Information Center Executive Director Dr. Paul Sundberg says PRRS has the propensity to evolve and change and we end up with new strains of PRRS regularly.

Clip-Dr. Paul Sundberg-Swine Health Information Center:
PRRS is the type of virus that evolves, naturally resorts and naturally changes so the focus of the webinar that we're going to have on the 21st is the PRRS 124 line and it's the line 1C variant of 124.
124 has been around and this lineage 1C though is a variant that's caused more problems and been much more pathogenic clinically out in the countryside than what we've had before.
PRRS 124 Line 1C has been especially hard in the Midwest, the pork production areas of the Midwest, Minnesota, Iowa, down into Missouri and even across to Nebraska and Illinois on the other side.
It's a regional issue that has been very difficult for practitioners to handle because it tends to stay on the farms longer and be harder to get rid of, be harder to step out of a farm and so our objective is to give people some practical information about how to handle those types of situations.

Full details on the webinar and links to register for it can be accessed through the Swine Health Information Center web site at swinehealth.org.
